Alan was born on April, 2007. There was no complications at the time of birth. By eighteen months old, Alan was not responding to his name, had poor eye gaze, not using words to communicate, next to no body language, not playing with toys, not interacting with his older sister Rachel and/or peers and had difficulties with walking/ balance. Alan did not seem to understand labels of objects, body parts and didn’t even follow one step commands.. We continued to consult with the Pediatrician, which became Alan’s quarterback.
With this realization of Alan Global Developmental Delay (GDD), we his parents immediately enrolled him in different areas of therapy; He was observed and treated by a Physiotherapist (PT), Occupational therapist (OT), and by Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP). Despite all the therapies received and on-going, Alan continued to fall behind his peers developmentally.
By the time Alan was 3 years old, the concern about autism was raised. We then had Alan fully assessed at DEVELOPMENTAL ASSESSMENT AND CONSULTATION SERVICES (DACS), located in Oak Ridges, Ontario and was concluded; Alan met the criteria for a diagnosis of Autism Disorder.
And so it began…..
